First Responders
Sirens wailing down the road approaching fast. the sound is changing from that high pitched distant tone to a more deep and much louder sound. When they arrive they start right in on all the necessaries while remaining completely calm.
…And Jesus answered them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick…
Luke 5:31-32
Hopefully you have never experienced the need for this. I know we have. Our son had a an aggressive seizure and was boiling hot. He was 2 years old and it terrified us. It terrified him when he came to. In the moment we did all that we could. I told my wife to call 911, I started cooling him down with cool towels and ice. And we all got to praying. The EMTS were completely relaxed and told us it was all going to be ok. Rockwell would be alright and this was most likely just a fever induced seizure. They still transferred us to the hospital to let the doctor take a look.
They're calm, made me feel safer. It made my wife and I realize our baby boy was going to be just fine. And he was.
We get to be the first responders in this case for people that have been stuck in spiritual triage. They are sitting there waiting for the right answer. They have been hurt in their past from other churches. It has been a rough week full of pain and suffering. But you know what? There is hope. When they arrive on campus they are met by people that have been there before. They know the road to health. They are ready to be there for them. Ready to help transport them to the hospital. The church is that hospital and we as the Guest Services team are those first responders. We get that privilege to allow people to have a glimpse of God and a glimpse of what they will experience when they go in for their medicine known as worship and the Word.
What a cool chance to help people. I am so glad we get to do this together.
