You smell…
…and I am glad you do.
I want to take you on this journey of why it is so important to smell, not just like yourself but like everyone around you.
On the Guest Services team we high five lots of people, we wave frantically, we even hand out a few head nods. But my favorite thing to do is to give a big hug or daps to anyone that I can. I am aware that not everyone has a physical touch love language like I do, so I try my hardest to respect that. But know that I am a hugger.
When I wake up I shower, shave, brush my teeth (and scrape my tongue) and put on some cologne. Throughout the day, especially on a Sunday, the individual smells of each of those things starts to fade. You know this, your deodorant, the one that says its 48 hour protection, doesn't leave us feeling super "protected" by after moving around all day. But you know what usually stays with me? My cologne.
You know what else stays with me? Other peoples cologne and perfume. And I LOVE that. I love that by the end of the day my shirt or jacket smells like a hodge podge of other peoples smells mixed with mine. Please don't be grossed out by this, I am sure at this point I have completely lost any germaphobe.
Let me cut in here really quickly. I want to clarify that just because I said this about cologne doesn't mean we should put on extra. Haha. You guys have on the right amount. No need for more.
The reason why I think this is so beautiful is that it shows us how cool it is to love one another. I think it is amazing that God put us in this place. That He is choosing to bless us here in Vacaville, East Bay, Roseville, Napa and Calgary with an amazing church full of amazing people. And you know what else? Full of amazing smelling people too. Keep getting smelly with everyone else. Keep those hugs coming in. And keep trading cologne and perfume like it's a sport.
So let me say it again, "you smell... and I am glad you do."
Be Blessed,
James Cooper
